Pan Am Championships vs. Pan Am Games

I received an anonymous comment yesterday:

"on your bio you note you are the only top ten finisher . wayne and dale stetina placed 4th and 5th respectfully in 1979"

I think there is a slight misunderstanding - the last time I checked (which was not recently), I'm the only US male rider to have placed in the top-10 in the UCI's annual Pan American [Continental] Championships road race. These are different than the Pan American Games, in which the Stetina brothers placed 4th and 5th in 1979.

The Pan Am Championships take place annually. The Pan Am Games are held every four years (always occuring the year before the summer Olympics).

Sorry for the confusion...

Gutted

Well, I was wrong, and appearances are not all that they seem. Thanks to a sometimes-friend who revealed to me a very hard-to-swallow, totally unexpected truth, I've been disabused of the notion that something good was coming out of the past couple of years. I'm reminded of the classic Mike Fraysse quote: "Better to be thought a fool, than open your mouth and take away all doubts."

This really sucks - I'm gutted - but better to learn now the truth rather than lose even one more day to a lie. Next comes the challenge of turning the other cheek and just walking away, as there is no logical explanation to be found that will justify what I've seen. I want to keep asking "Why?" and find some rationale for what is totally unbelievable, but by it's very nature the situation precludes ever being explained-away.

Mike Dropkin - Clinically Insane?

Firstly, my apologies to Residuum Energy, Mike Dropkin's previous employer. In a brief email RE advised me that Mike is no longer with their firm:

"[We] got the same bizarre stuff from Mike. We can no longer work with him. IMHO he is clinically insane."

and this gem:

"I guess we are luckier than you, we no longer get emails from him."

Secondly, you can read a response Mike left to my having collected his lunatic rants, here. My favorite quote from Mike's ramblings is:

"Joe helped to frame Floyd and make Floyd look dirty..."

If Floyd looked Dirty to Mike, then Mike has only Floyd to blame.
